Here's the finished version of the Superman work-in-progress I posted a couple of weeks ago. I was also going to share some of my thoughts on the DC reboot, the Superman lawsuit, the Man of Steel and some other related topics but I have to run out to get a haircut now. Trust me, though, it would have been very witty and insightful.

Hey everyone! I didn't get a chance to post these on Valentine's Day but here are the cards I made for my wife, Erin Gallagher. I'm very lucky to have a wife that finds super-hero Valentine's perfectly acceptable.

Hey everyone! Here's some more Batman art; a new painting along with some sample pages I've been sending around recently. Yep, that's right, more Batman. I'm going to switch it up after this post, I swear.

If you look closely at the pages, you might recognize the convenience store worker and the robbers: their designs are all modeled after "The Simpsons" characters Apu, Snake and the Babysitter Bandit  and the interior of the store is modeled after the Kwik-E-Mart.  And by "molded after" I mean "stolen from". I did this for no other reason than to entertain myself so, hopefully, you get a kick out of it, too.

In addition, I finally overhauled the look of this blog along with adding some new bells and whistles such as a search field, a Twitter feed and a snazzy logo designed by my wife and fellow artist, Erin Gallagher. Fancy! In fact, I'm wearing a top hat while typing this.

Day 4: The Joker

Pencil sketch of Batman's arch-nemesis. And even though he's insane, you have to admire the Joker's attitude; he's always smiling and can find the humor in just about anything. Except for "Two and a Half Men". Even he doesn't understand why it's so popular.

Day 3: Mr. Freeze

A quick warm-up sketch of Mr. Freeze (sorry, no pun intended) for the third installment in this week's theme. Now that I think about it, maybe he's behind all this snow and cold weather we've been getting lately. Or maybe I need to start getting more sleep; I think I'm losing my grip on reality. At least that's what my cats have been telling me.

Day 2: Two-Face

A Tuesday blog post of a Two-Face sketch for day two of the Batman theme week! My take on Two-Face is very much influenced by the Bruce Timm version since I feel it's one of the best (if not the best) designs of the character. I did take a different approach to the face but the messy white hair and black & white suit are perfect so why change them? One detail I added to the suit was some sloppy stitching on the tie to suggest the Two-Face makes those crazy two-toned suits himself. Or at least has his hired goons make them. Kicking off this Batman theme week with a Batzarro sketch! Yep, Batzarro. He's such a ridiculous character I can't help but love him.

This here's a pin-up of the characters from my self-published mini-comic "Woolgathering". And even though we can't actually hear what they're listening to, from the looks of it, I'd say it's almost definitely some Michael Jackson tunes. Or maybe Motorhead. Who knows?

I had to take a bit of a break from the strip earlier this year but, over the last few months, I've been steadily working on new strips and stories, which will all finally see the light of day early in the New Year--in both print and on the web! So please keep checking in for news and updates.

With so many cookie plates left out for Santa on Christmas Eve, Cookie Monster realized that it was the perfect night for him to feed his addiction. Or so he thought!

WATERCOLORS

Here are a couple of watercolor still lifes I did a few years ago and I just came across them again while organizing my studio the other day. It's been a little while since I've drawn or painted from life and I definitely miss it. I did do some recently when my wife and I were in Paris a few months ago and it was a lot of fun. I should look into take a class again soon.

SPIDER-MAN REDUX

Hey everyone! This here is a revised version of a illustration I posted a few months back. Feel free to click here if you would like to compare this one to the original.

Back when I posted the first version, a friend and fellow artist gave me some feedback and said that while he really liked the Spidey, he felt the overall composition could be stronger. I'm not exactly sure what happened right after that because I flew into a blinding rage and blacked out for a moment. But later on, when I went to visit my friend in the hospital, I told him I thought about what he said and realized he was right. Oh, and also that I was sorry.

But I digress. Aside from the composition of the original, I wasn't really happy with how the building looked either. So for the revised version I re-drew the building from scratch then colored it digitally and now I think the piece is a lot stronger. Kind of like my friend's spine now that it has that metal rod in it.

DARKSEID

Here's the inked & colored version of the Darkseid drawing I posted a few months back as well as some examples of the progress. I also did a quick monochrome version just for the hell of it.
